Miss Oni Diaries :: Swimwear

Our recent trip to Goa with top model Miss Nita, was not only a great holiday but an excellent testing opportunity for out Missoni for Target swimwear. Besides its beaches and parties, Goa is a great shopping destination for clothes and second hand jewelry items. We found this lovely spiky silver necklace in Arpora flea market (open Saturdays).They have sunglasses in every colour sold by hawkers on the road side! If you visit on a Wednesday try Anjuna flea market.

Miss Nita wears:: Missoni jersey shorts, Juicy Couture bikini top, Tieks shoes, flea market sunglasses, silver spike necklace from flea market.
Miss Priyanca wears:: Missoni 2 piece (comes with a detachable yellow halter strap), zara shoes, Flea market sunglasses, ding dong bling earrings- gift from a friend.

If you are diggin the Tieks (ballerina shoes) which are available in every possible colour under the sun, then we have excellent news. We will be visiting the NYC store in the coming week and shhh...possibly have a give away pressy...so stay tuned. Mr. Valentine :: Men's debut

I've been planning a men's post for a while now and little did I imagine it would turn out to be on Valentines day... Bloomingdale was having a redic closing down sale so I dragged my boy friend with the idea of re-styling his wardrobe. We spotted this really washed deconstructed Boss jacket on a discreet rail, just as we were giving up in the men's section. Now all we needed was a complimenting accessory. The plaid Ralph Lauren scarf was still on the mannequin when we grabbed it...just like everyone else in this closing down heaven, we were grabbing anything with a price tag on it! This is THE only way I have found to make my boy friend wear skinny jeans...get him a nice fitted casual jacket! Throw in a scarf for more incentive...make him listen to Justin Timberlake and watch youtube videos of Kanya West! (if you know of other ways pls let me know!!)
We all know how skinny jeans are to most non-fashion types...girly, scary, gay and way too tight at the crotch! But its time to convert boys or you will be no different from them rodeo guys in their levis 505's. All you have to do is go into the store and try it on!! Gap is a great place to start. They have looser upper fits with skinny legs, great range of colours and mild washes. If you are more adventurous try Urban Outfitters or Diesel. If skinny jeans are definitely not for you then try skinny chinos in neutral or bright colours. Uniqlo, American Eagle and Benetton have a nice range. Don't have to buy it...just try it!
WARNING :: Always wear nice fitted briefs with these things!
TIP :: Rock your skinny jeans with some formal dress shoes, NO tacky sports wear! (Maybe Converse..)

My sin :: I bought 6 pairs of shoes for a bargain price at the closing down sale at Bloomingdale, which is going to be the direct result for my happiness for the next few weeks! They are all floor samples and well worth it. Will showcase in the next few posts!

Vintage Clothing swap

Ive been to a lot of clothing & accessory swaps in my time but this one turned out to be one of the coziest. Everything was organised and arranged by a group of vintage loving girls, with a hoarder for a leader! What better way to clean up your wardrobe of all those bits from the thrift stores, and replace them with quality stuff that you can try on in your leisure.

Synopses :: Hand full of girls (with great wardrobes) come in with items they have loved for long enough. You get a token for each item you bring, largely divided into 1. expensive and treasured 2. Special mid-range 3. run of the mill 4. Accessories.

Highlights :: There was plenty of bubbly and sugar coated delights to tuck into during the swap. Everyone was warm and welcoming even to a strange English girl with American dyslexia...Even better was the abundance of smaller clothing that fit me perfectly! The highlight was the house cat that walked around inspecting every one's items and making sure stuff was in order!

I parted with :: my neon yellow Trevor jacket, but I got this lovely vintage yellow dress (second picture below) that I've already started wearing out!

What I wore to the swap :: American Apparel Tank top, Missoni for target skirt, Mango sequined jacket, Mom's vintage belt, Mom's old vintage bag, LD Tittle shoes. (below)

Style Pilot :: review and guest post

The Fashington Press presents Style Pilot a new men's styling and online store, yes...dedicated solely to men's fashion! Love the sound of that? Read on...

The Fashington Press has been planning to enter the sartorial and preppy world of men's fashion styling, and working with Style Pilot on this guest post is what we call good timing!

So in a nut shell...Style Pilot has a selection of great brands (I can vouch for this coming from a men's fashion background...) they sell on their online store. Superdry, Timberland, Stone Island and Boden are some of my favs. Some key brands are definitely missing but bear in mind its just a start-up! What is really different about their selection is that they don't have boring whole retail ranges but hand picked select pieces, and I love them ones that are on there. Bit quirky, very wearable, totally today and super metro sexual.

You can easily create outfits by adding items to your outfit builder...this helps you visualise the final ensemble! They also help you style your out fit by the occasion which can be useful in a hurry. Here is the dandy outfit I made...

PS: I love that some of the pieces are discounted as well! Talk about bargain!

Now that the fiery heat from Target- Missoni has all sizzled out...its time to hit the streets in them Missonis...I was looking for something to wear on a hot date last night...something cozy yet eccentric and modern. (Much like the guy I was going out with...wink!!) I figured this XL kids Missoni was waiting to spring out of the closet after almost four months of hibernation. Fits well, perfect length, although it took an inner skirt to make the bottom half fall better. The leather jacket completes that European fashionista look. What's better is I got to use that blue Caruso eye shadow I got for $2 down at the flee market!

New Years Fashion Resolutions

We are back, after a wonderfully long, super hyper holiday and a crazy New Years in Goa! Hope you had a Fash New Years lovelies. Besides sitting on our ass in the sun we have been up to some fashion mischief ourselves...yes we have been shooting some of our new purchases on some fab beaches in the Arabian sea...but first up lets focus on our resolution this year...The Fashington Press has taken some major decisions to focus more on DIY hand crafted fashion items, recycling and vintage pieces to keep up with the recession that doesn't seem to leave us. Be sure to see clothes previously showcased on our blog, but in a brand new way, you wont even notice! Its all about re-styling, recycling and being creative. First up is this folk hand crafted jumper worn as a dress with bright red tights...work this look further with a hobo felt hat and a woolen handbag.

Amsterdam's Grunge Room

Hope our Halloween special gave you enough inspiration to turn some heads. Do let us know how it went...We take a paradigm shift from wild and surreal to 'Amsterdam Grunge' with this music inspired, attitude loaded shoot. Our model Miss Devon, from the band ' TACO' wears a saucy corset top in red forget-me-not foil. The delicate accessories are styled to contrast her grungy tattoos. For shoes we went for the more preppy oxford lace up boots, a hit with the Amsterdam music scene. Set in a derelict santuary of books, musical instruments and all sorts of junk, this house in the urbs was a great backdrop for our shoot. Thanks to Andre for loaning his baby ;)

Halloween Special :: Edward Scissorhand

If you are looking for haunting, then this is your Halloween look... (scissor) hands down!!! Although we are not sure how Edward manages to dress himself without shredding his clothes, his style inspired this dark and disheveled look. After much deliberation, we opted not to replace our hands with sharp cutlery, however we did accent the shirt and belt with scissor-esque metallics. The one-piece play suit (that everyone buys in the sale, but is seldom worn out) takes centre stage. The metallic shirt adds layers and drama to this outfit. Its goth, mysterious, and romantic... a combination we find is sheargenius!

Halloween calls for a costume series on its own by The Fashington Press. This theatrical 'Alice in Wonderland' look is one of our favorites and so easy to achieve. Layer your look and make it feather light and dreamy...this multi collared dress is perfect for playing around and modeling into your character. Most vintage store will carry voile, lace and white pieces, which are perfect for layering. Play with patterned scarves, drawing attention to your collar and create that avant garde look, which is Alice. Weave your web around just a few colors and keep it simple, the spider adds a nice touch on the knot. Who knows, you might meet your 'Mad Hatter Depp' this Halloween!

Get your ass down to your favorite vintage store and raid their over flowing boxes...We put together this great flowy bell trouser with a simple formal cream shirt. Big bows with printed scarf adds a touch of Parisian chic. The top hat is the icing on the cake, the taller the better!

O'Ren LBD, Look #4

Its time to transition away from the more classic LBDs into a more edgy look inspired by one of our favorite movies Kill Bill. We channeled our inner O'Ren (Lucy Liu's character in the film) when putting together this outfit. Bits of black with evil hints of red on this gorgeous tailor made Cheongasm LBD. As Halloween is around the corner, we added steel gray pearls and the crow feathered hat to add a touch of haunting and wanting. If you are looking for a killerlook, then this outfit will certainly fit the bill.

Leaning towards 'formal cocktail' ...at any hour of the day, our Audrey LBD and makeover is for those girls who enjoy eating their breakfast at Tiffany's .

Can't go to Tiffany's without the appopriate jewelry! For this classic yet girly look we chose pearls... loads and loads of pearls- guaranteed to make heads turn! Even for those petite gals there is something brave and confident about wearing eight layers of pearls around your neck. Keep the other accessories minimal and simple. Hair Tip:: don't wash your hair for a few days if you want to recreate this beehive... use tons of hair spray before backcombing forwards and backwards. This is especially suited for damsels with a sexy fringe like Audrey!

The Burlesque LBD, Look #2

Burlesque, Burlesque, Burlesque.. lately this has been THE look around town. Here is the big question when strutting the look, 'Is it possible to look sexy yet not tarty?'.

The Fashiongton Press sought to answer this question by styling this popular look with a corset LBD. Remember, sexy is the key here, especially if it is on a night out to lure the right kind of man (or woman). Inspired from Madonna & Winehouse's personalities, we focus on our model-Miss Devon's music personality and charm .
Introduce layers of long pendants and charms making sure to keep them classy. Sometimes it is good to divert the attention from the dress with carefree and fun accessories. The 60's LBD, look #1

Often with fashion we are stuck with decisions and confusion on what to wear and what to leave out. With this 60's Bridget Bardot inspired styling shoot we decided to go with a complete black and white look. This is a great way to style a look + rid the dilemma of colorful goof ups. Miss Janet wears a beautiful lace trim dress from The Eclectic Gal Boutique straight out of the 60's and immaculately preserved! Our favorite touch is the mesh silver belt from Modern Matters, which gives this look a more edgy modern feel. Whether it is an evening do or a business meeting, this look demonstrates effortless 'Bardot Parisian Chic'. Janet's windswept hair is built on heavy back combing and tons of hair spray. A wide head sash tidies up the mess perfectly!

The Long White Day Dress, Look #2

The Fashington Press presents the second look with the LWD (long white dress), a very casually worn day dress. Although these pictures are taken at dusk, it is styled to be worn when the sun is bright and dancing in the midday skies. The Long White Evening Dress, Look #1

The Fashington Press has challenged the infamous 'Long White Dress' (LWD) that has been cast away and forgotten for way too long. During one of our vintage outings we picked up this classic elasticated waist chiffon dress from Two Tart for $10 and tried to breathe life into it. In the first of the three looks to come, we present the 'Evening White Dress'! Paint your white canvas with glitter and gold. The chunkier the better! We used a selection of chunky handcrafted jewelery by designer Shahnaz Hughson, available on her Etsy shop. Everyone needs a Hepburn beaded clutch that pretty much goes with anything, we raided Donna DeAngelis's stock at Modern Matter and found this really cute classic purse. Try out some of the glitter dust eye make up...make it smokey and heavy. Remember all you have is a simple white dress so you need to stand out!

The Avril Revival

For all our readers that are punky, funky and cant do pretty, here is how to work the 'vintage look' along with your modern ensembles! We have an Avril Lavigne inspired shoot (in the rain and all the jazz).
What you will need : : Tomb Raider'esk outfit, old tooled ethnic bags (best purchases are made on travels to places that are great at making handicrafts). Old socks make great wrist bands...try dishing out your grandpa's argyle knitted ones! Old military boots or footwear that has done its time. Big bright watch : : don't stop at women's watches...try out big ass men's watches. Raid your camping paraphernalia for some nice props- water cans, D-rings. A really messy head of hair and a whole load of attitude ties everything together. Want to push it a little further? Darken your eyebrows with power based make up and dark eyes. Don't forget to spray on some macho perfume before you get outta that door.

Festival Shirt Dress...look #2

As we approach peak summer here is 'Look#2 Shirt Dress' style. This festival inspired look is colorful, indie and funky, yet removed from the usual folksy styles that we see at music festivals. Make some noise with vivid glass bangles and bright scarves. Deck your collar with pins from all your fav band's to show your support. If you have estranged earings and studs, pin them through button holes to create mismatched assorted buttons. Keep your brows dry, wear a printed scarf on your head in a vintage fashion!

Boyfriend Shirt Dress, Look #1

Seeing how you guys loved the styling post on wearing one look in different ways...we have another one coming your way...the infamous 'Boyfriend shirt' dress. Raiding is the key work here. We encourage everyone to raid your brothers, fathers and neighbors wardrobes and dig out those antiquated boring shirts. Lets breathe some life into these old rags before they become designer mops. Miss Nita found a bunch of shirts in her brothers wardrobe and we picked this really simple graph paper check from Banana Republic. The shirt was a little short so we teamed it up with tonal denim shorts. Belts are important accessories over shirt dresses..Since we have seen and done the fat-ass belts we chose a simple Gap belt from mom's wardrobe. With the essentials ready there was no stopping us from decking the look with acid color cowboy boots. The head scarf is a tie (thanks to dear brother), which we wrapped around her little head with a rosette pin to hold in place. pssst...I hear this is now her signature look in school!

VAMP visit : : A Vintage Orgasm

VAMP : : Vintage Apparel Market Place, a brain child of vintagists Marji + Jacqueline, owners of Pony Up, Atl. Who would have expected a quaint little photography studio with quirky fixtures and loftish props to host such a cozy vintage carnival? Very un-market place like gathering of vintagists, showed everything from clothing to jewels and the latest vintage inspired trend. There was no need for the usual market place haggling, as it was really well priced and affordable. Sadly planned as an annual event, we hope to see more of you friendly lot.

Granny B* has reinvented itself with this oh so hot secretary look. See through grandma blouses are the perfect opportunity to bring out your uber cool high school bustiers. At TFP** its all about spurts of color, aka the tights. Try and get some nice rich English colors for work wear : : Charcoal, Teal, Rust, Wine and Olive. Look to Miss Pillsbury (from Glee) for the perfect librarian/ secretary look. Try collar pins, neck chains, broaches on the collar to make it look preppy exec! Don't forget your office satchel when you walk out that door. If you already have a classic one, try satchels in two-tone colors . Urban outfitters has a good collection. If you really want to push this look and be taken seriously...don a pair of dark frame glasses and stare back at people who leech at you!

Hope you are not bored with the granny blouse yet! The Fashington Press has its second look, a more casual and fun one with the granny B. Especially suited for the hoarders and thrifters of all kinds of goods as you can layer your granny B with a solid color tank top or vest, here we have to mention more layering the merrier! All that is left is to bang on some bits and bobs you've stached away in that old biscuit tin! Some badges- mix them up so they are eccentric. Try accessorizing with long locket chains. DIY tip:: make your own darn charms- loose keys, coins on railway tracks or watches and loose earnings, funky visiting cards make unusual pendants! This is a perfect opportunity to wear all those insanely funky tights / socks with last years espadrilles or good old converse shoes. The trick is to keep the main colors down to one or two and use accent colors that pop...as many as you like!

Now the best part::the summer trilby...there has never been more discounted hats or such a huge selection available before...noting is easier than trying out hats in a store nor does it burn a hole in your pocket. Find a style that suits you and get one in every color!

When I was in NYC over Christmas I visited this store called Tierra. They make adorable hand crafted jewelry, but the cream on the pudding is the little bags they put their merchandise in with a ribbon rosette. So when Miss Nita visited me in her vivid check shirt we dressed it up with this ribbon and her legendary Manhattan map necklace. Whats more we stumbled upon this amazing thrift store -Historic camp Bowie Mercantile, which we raided for 4 days in a row where we shot these pictures.
